Keiichi Suzuki was born in Tokyo, Japan. In the 1970s, he became involved with the Japanese band “Hachimitsu Pie,” who released one album in 1973. Suzuki’s true notoriety comes from his work with the long-lived Moon Riders, who became one of Japan’s most innovative rock bands. Suzuki functioned as the occasional-leader and regular singer of the band—the group’s first album was in fact credited to “Keiichi Suzuki and the MOONRIDERS”—which also included his brother Hirofumi. Suzuki will also be familiar to fans of the Yellow Magic Orchestra for his various collaborations with Yukihiro Takahashi, most notably on the material credited to “The Beatniks.”
He also composed music for a number of films, including The Blind Swordsman: Zatoichi, Tokyo Godfathers, and Chicken Heart. As an actor, Suzuki appeared in 1980, Body Drop Asphalt, Swallowtail Butterfly, and other films from the late ’90s and early 2000’s. He also worked as a programmer and character designer for a number of videogames, including Batman (1989) and Gremlins 2: The New Batch (1990).
