Wow, thank you for alerting me to that! Kanno working on new music is exciting enough, but what makes it 1000000x better is that Shinichiro Watanabe is finally directing another series... and with Kanno to boot. Bebop and Champloo are both among my favorites.

@emaskye: You know, I've been thinking a lot about this and have come to the conclusion (especially after exploring the history of Jazz music) that borrowing from compositions from others isn't really bad from a musical perspective and only encourages creativity and innovation. Most of these are songs are a step up from the source, so that has to mean something. I think the only issue people have is the legal one of whether the artists were compensated, which is kind of petty when you get right down to it. But who are we to worry out over that? I'm pretty sure that the record labels she has released under made sure everything was done legally; there would be way too much liability on their part for them not to do so. Especially if you consider that many times the director/producer signed off on wanting a Jimmy Hart version of some piece of music he/she though would be cool for a scene in their animation. We can dock points when she releases a solo album of original "stolen" material.
