Miwa Sasagawa (笹川美和, Sasagawa Miwa, born on February 23, 1983) is a young Japanese singer from Shibata in Niigata. She represents many genres although her music is generally described as a mix of Japanese folk music, rock and electronic sounds.

She started her music career in 2000 when she won the Christmas Song Grand Prix held by the ecoburger chain Mosburger with her song “Thanks To Be Here”. After that, she released a couple of singles as an indie artist.

On September 18, 2003 her single 笑 (Warai, Laughter) was released by the Japanese major label avex trax. In the following years, she had some more singles and four albums released: 事実 (Jijitsu, Fact), 数多 (Amata, Fullness), 夜明け (Yoake, Dawn) and 迷いなく (Mayoi Naku, Without Hesitation).

In July 2007 she terminated her contract with avex trax for artistic reasons and is now again pursuing a career as an independent artist.

Since then she has released the mini album “miwaBLUE” (June 2008, 7 tracks):

1. 花火の音 (hanabi no oto, 4:27)
2. 星の船 (hoshi no fune, 4:32)
3. 春風 (shunpuu, 4:20)
4. さよなら (sayonara, 4:01)
5. 小春日和 (koharubiyori, 3:54)
6. 街生まれ、田舎生まれ (machi umare, inaka umare, 5:30)
7. 嘘 (uso, 1:51)

She also released “miwaNOËL” (November 2008, 3 newly recorded or live performed tracks) at the indie label April Records.

1. Thanks to be here (4:35)
2. ニセアカシア (nise akashia, 5:21)
