About this album

Fable (Chinese: 寓言; pinyin: Yùyán) is a 2000 Mandarin album by Beijing-based singer Faye Wong.
The album can be considered in three sections. The first five tracks deal with certain aspects of Buddhism, incorporating motifs from fairy tales especially Cinderella. The next three are radio-friendly pop songs. The next two, “Farewell Firefly” (再見螢火蟲) and “Book of Laughter and Forgetting” (笑忘書), are somewhat more complex musically; they are sung in , and are followed by alternate versions in , “Firefly” (螢火蟲) and “Love Letters to Myself” (給自己的情書).

The first five songs form a song cycle and were composed by Faye Wong herself, marking her further development as a songwriter. Three of them featured as the final segment of every performance in Wong’s 2010–2012 Comeback Tour.
All the lyrics on the album are by Lin Xi (林夕), and it was produced by Zhang Yadong (張亞東) [track 1-5] and Alvin Leong (梁榮駿) [track 6-12], all of whom were regularly collaborating with Wong during this period of her career.
Media interest focussed on the song “Love Letters to Myself”, which was taken to refer to Wong’s affair with Nicholas Tse (謝霆鋒) who never sent her love letters.

The first five tracks should've been released as an EP. There's just no comparison between these and the rest of the album. [2] The second half isn't horrible though. Just nowhere near as good.

    太美太美的专辑了,虽然前半张与后半张很不和谐,但仍好听。

The first five tracks should've been released as an EP. There's just no comparison between these and the rest of the album. I just wish Faye was allowed to write and record the songs she wanted. If they all sounded like the first half of this album, I think she would've stood a chance breaking into the West.
