Tarô Iwashiro (岩代太郎; Iwashiro Tarô) is a Japanese composer for film and television. He was born on May 1, 1965 in Tokyo. In 1984 he graduated from the Tokyo High School of Fine Arts and went on to study composition at Tokyo University of the Arts. He graduated as top student and received his master degree in 1991.
After receiving an academic education in music, Iwashiro has created music for soundtracks of films and television while composing and producing music which has been widely received by both the public and academia. He has expanded his capacity as a musician and is currently concentrating on orchestration while continuing to compose and arrange.
His style is generally quite massive and pompous, relying on epic string lines and harmonic structures.
His works include music for: あぐり (Agri, 1997), The Dog of Flanders (1997), あずみ (Azumi, 2003), 血と骨 (Chi to Hone, 2004), SHINOBI (2005), 春の雪 (Haru no Yuki, 2005), 義経 (Yoshitsune, 2005), 蝉しぐれ (Semi Shigure, 2005), 日本沈没 (Nihon Chinbotsu, 2006).
He also composed music for the PlayStation 2 CAPCOM game 鬼武者2 (Onimusha 2) in 2002 and the るろうに剣心維新志士への鎮魂歌 (Rurôuni Kenshin: Ishin Shishi e no Requiem) movie in 1997.
