Yousei Teikoku (妖精帝國, literally “Fairy Empire”) is a Japanese duo with electronic, ambient, heavy rock, neoclassical and gothic influences, formed in 1997. They consist of “fairy” vocalist/occasional lyricist YUI (伊月ゆい) and composer Takaha Tachibana (橘尭葉). Through music, Yousei Teikoku is attempting to revive the Fairy Empire that exists between the human world and the spiritual realm known as Spiritua. Yousei Teikoku presents a visual image with gothic style as its core. “Gothic” and “empire” are keywords in their musical concepts. TEAM FAIRITHM has come together to produce this musical revolution.

The duo has four indies albums (Momo no Hane, Momo no Mori, Shikou no Momo, stigma), one major label best-of album (GOTHIC LOLITA PROPAGANDA), one mini-album (metanoia), and eight singles (Ashita wo Yurushite, Senketsu no Chikai, Noble Roar, Valkyrja, Shijun no Zankoku, Schwarzer Sarg, Hades: The bloody rage, weiβ flugel). A second best-of album, GOTHIC LOLITA DOCTRINE, is to be released on 2009/8/26.

Many of their songs have tie-ups with various anime series (Renkin 3-kyuu Magical? Poka~n, Innocent Venus, Venus Versus Virus) and video games (My-Otome). Tachibana also composed the My-HiME video game soundtrack.

I don't like Irodoru no nai Sekai that much either. I like Gekkou no Chigiri much better. XD And the answer to LavenderYuki's question, it would be Sacrifice for me. Although the song was a bit of a fast-paced (at least for me), I did enjoy savoring Yui's voice here. :D

@moonlight-hime: The Kurokami endings are not representative of their other music. If you go in expecting ballads like that, you'll most likely be disappointed (although there's at least one on every album). But you should probably start from Gothic Lolita Propaganda (and stigma if you can find it.. still their best album). Their release history gets quite messy after that and I'm not sure if I should suggest the mini-albums/singles or the latest 'best of' album. :P

Man, I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought so. Their indie stuff just can't compare to their official stuff. I wouldn't expect anything new from them until next year.[2] But it'll be great if they release a NEW single before the end of this year. That aside, Momo no Hane and Momo no Mori were stuff that were already made available for grabs. The only albums that I believe are still extinct ATM are Shiko no Momo and Atarashii Momo. Still, the new link should act as heads up for fans who had trouble finding them. Judging from the 2 available indie albums, we shouldn't be missing out on anything good if we skip the other 2. Their Indie stuff are pretty much prototypes for their official stuff: Deep sea is somewhat an improved and longer version of Do you Believe that THE FAIRY exists? And also, the line "あなたは妖精の存在を信じますか？" was used in Garden.
