Biography

Japan (2009 – present)

Ziyoou-vachi is a 4-piece rock band from Japan. They formed in Kobe in 2009, and after playing together for about a year they were chosen to play on the extremely selective “Rookie a Go-Go” stage at Japan’s mammoth Fuji Rock festival. Their performance there caught the ears of Japan’s rock fans, but what really brought them to prominence was a landmark gig at a secret party held by the fashion brand Hysteric Glamour last November. After that night, they became the talk of Japan’s fashion cognoscenti.

In March of 2011, they started selling their first self-recorded CD-Rs at live shows. Those discs, 王族大逆鱗 (“The Mad Princess”) and 王族大逆鱗 (“The Wrath of the Royal Family”), quickly sold out, and allowed the band’s label Ziyoou Records to release their next recording 魔女狩り (“Witch Hunt”) nationwide. And now they’ll put out their major-label debut on Sony Music Associated Records in Fall 2011.The night she announced their decision to sign with a major, bandleader Avu-chan decided to share the band’s reasoning, which was basically that they’d “get to wear way more awesome clothes” and “push to even further levels of excess.” That should give listeners some clue as to what sort of debut to anticipate.

Shortly after the release of their second album 蛇姫様, they announced the departure of guitarist Gigi. A live guitarist and keyboardist, as well as an undetermined amount of ‘members’ have since joined the band.

As of February 2013, they are on indefinite hiatus.

Members:
Vocal: Avu.

Zypraxa, this is not your fucking blog. Also, Dir en grey is not nu metal, alternative/progressive metal would be more accurate.

I laugh at Zypraxa railing against visual kei fans when very few visual kei fans listen to 女王蜂.

I guess my main point is - just because a pop/rock/punk band's from Japan doesn't make their music any more interesting. I see this justification used over and over again. Eg, to use a popular example, dir en grey are nu metal regardless of nationality, and once you get over the Japanese vocals the music itself is the same old thing. Yet again, people just focus on the vocalists. If the music was instrumental, would it be worth anything? No. If the same music had English vocals, would it be worth anything? No (perhaps to to like, Underoath, NOFX fans, depending on the style). Yeah... not saying anyone here is like this AT ALL, but yes. In the end, people can do what they want, but I'll still criticise them for it. Peace and love.

This ain't bad, but I really can't stand these "visual kei -"/"japanese quasi-punk -"/"j rock only" listeners. I mean how the fuck can you listen to such isotropic music? It's so similar across the board. There are really only minor differences, such as the singer's voice (you'd be lucky to find differences between the actual instrumentalists, who are usually just a "backing band" anyway)... these people claim to have eclectic (or whatever) tastes, but they're Westerners and they listen to pop and rock music exclusively from Japan. That's all they are. Like, try broadening your horizons. These aren't even the most talented, innovative nor the most riveting Japanese groups out there, just to limit us to the land of the rising sun. Most of these people are just wannabe "otaku" who learn Japanese with the purpose of re-enacting romantic engagements they see in their favourite anime. None of this stuff is bad in itself, but it's the myopic obsession that's sick. Peace and love.

I actually like most of their "soft" songs (燃える海 from Kujaku probably being my favorite), though they will always prevail with their crazy, noisy punky songs. Re-affirming my love for the new album.

V At first i didn't like 無題 & 鉄壁 too, but Abu has such a sweet voice on 無題 - nice song - maybe 9min is too much, probably it gives some time to Abu change clothing and come on! 鉄壁 is strong. I think 蛇姫様 has awesome individual tracks, Ψ is infectious, but 魔女狩り still works better as an album to me.

Ψ is perfect. Aside from the 9 minute and the last song, I liked everything on their new album. Definitely their strongest one yet.
