Biography

Itabashi, Tokyo, Japan (1996 – present)

Sakamoto Maaya (坂本真綾, born March 31, 1980 in Itabashi, Tokyo, Japan) is a Japanese voice actress (seiyuu) and singer. Known for her clear voice, and working as a voice-over actress for foreign movies and TV commercials from the age of 8, her life reached a turning point at the age of 16 when she played in her first animated series The Vision of Escaflowne, as the lead female character. She also sang the opening song, which became her debut single in 1996. Since then she has performed many other insert songs for various TV anime series, for which she has become notably popular.

She is also known for her close work with Yoko Kanno (菅野よう子), a well-known producer and composer, since the time of her debut until 2004. They came back working together again in 2008.

On August 13, Maaya announced on her website that she married fellow seiyuu 鈴村健一 (Suzumura Kenichi) on August 8, 2011.

After listening to SSW for a few times, it finally grows on me. My favourite tracks are Tooku, Sunshine, Ask., Naritai and Singer Songwriter. A remix of everywhere still sounds the same IMO, and although I do like this new arrangement of Chikai, I feel like her voice is a bit... straining? Anyway, this is still a very good album.

I am not much a fan of everywhere. I think there was remix of it on mitsubachi or something that was alright. Other than that, I think the melody is kind of boring and the song tends to drag on. SSW ver of it is equally mediocre, imo. And I was a little let down by the SSW ver of Chikai. I like the original better. Still listening to the album to get a full impression of all the songs, but so far, I really like Tooku, Nicola, and Singer Songwriter.

I love Sunshine, and Tooku and Kaminari are also pretty nice.

Singer Songwriter is pretty good, though in comparison to the two original tracks she wrote before (Everywhere and Chikai), it falls a little short. Of the new tracks, I like Sunshine, Nicola, and Tooku most so far

@Mr_Moon Her best album is Shounen Alice... in my opinion :) I love the new album. I'm her fan for almost fifteen years... her voice is always the difference, sweet and melodious... this is precisely why I always liked her so much. In this new album she's back without straining his voice so much as she was doing. It's perfect.

@soushokukeiDino Yes, the song does sound really lovely! Road to SSW Digest also has some examples of other songs in the album as well. Needless to say I am totally looking forward to SSW!

HOLY HELL. Have you all heard the new song ニコラ (Nicola)?? It's PERFECT. The instrumentation is PERFECT. Exactly the folk/pop I want to hear from her right now. SUPER high hopes for this album.

@Mr_Moon: I suggest you listening to all the albums in release order. However, since her discography is so expansive, I recommend to listen to Shounen Alice. It's my favorite of hers. After that, it'd have to be Lucy. DIVE and Kazeyomi are also great.

@Mr_Moon_ : Start with her best album "everywhere", and then move on to original albums. I personally recommend "Shounen Alice", "Yuunagi Loop", and "Kazeyomi". Her mini album "30minutes night flight" is lovely as well!
