Kanon Wakeshima (分島花音, born July 3, 1988) is a Japanese singer and cellist. She is produced by Mana (known from MALICE MIZER and Moi dix Mois) and debuted with her first single, “still doll”, on May 28th, 2008. Her zodiac sign is Cancer and her blood type is A.

Wakeshima has been playing the cello since she was three years old and began playing in string ensembles in middle school. By the age of 15 she had participated in a number of joint concerts and classical music performances. She began writing her own music towards the end of middle school and performed as a vocalist for the first time in senior high school. She was also a member of the music club in high school, and she began to wish to express herself more by music. She attended an audition at Sony Music Entertainment and passed, signing a deal with Sony’s DefSTAR Records.

    I decided to briefly summarize this interview. For those who want to read the full interview buy the magazine.Kanon says she has learned a lot with kanon × kanon to compose for anime and she wants to continue to do the same thing for her solo career and stays in the world of animation. She says she is released from Mana. She did not always use her cello now, even if she knows it is her originality. She can not choose her colaboration. To compose she inspired song she sings in the street or in the shower. For a next album nothing is planned BUT "Everything depends on the demand of my fans" If she could choose the theme of her next album it would be the restaurant like concerts "The strange Treat", songs will be delicious dishes.     If you love Shakespeare no Wasuremono, Heroine Syndrome, Kuroneko to Pianist no Tango, Princess Charleston, celmisia... how could you not love her new single? :D p/s: I listened to odette, Yoake and Ai no Aisatsu. They're pretty good, 10 times better than Foul Play ni Kurari or Sakurameikyuu.

    v well that is the weak point of her latest single, I suppose. Unlike her previous releases, the sound of cello was strong. Let's just give her a chance. This is her first-composed single after all. Maybe in her future releases, she'll try to strike more on the cello again.

    The problem I seem to have with her music is that she always poses with her cello, but the cello is never the focal point of the music. I hear more synth than anything else.

    I think her change on music is quite good though I never imagined that Kanon would change this much. Not that it's a bad thing. As for me, I quite like the new single especially Sakura Meikyuu. Foul Play ni Kurari sounds so operatic upbeat!
