Miyamoto Issui, after finishing school, auditioned to become a singer in a local Sony music audition, and won the grand prize after covering Jackson 5’s song ABC. In 2004, she left to go to Tokyo to prepare for her debut as a solo artist. At the same time, Nomura Youichirou was acting as a support guitarist for many musical acts performing live.
In summer 2005, the pair met. Miyamoto’s musical director had asked Nomura to write a song for Miyamoto, which became “Edelweiss”. After Nomura met with Miyamoto and the two started making demo tapes together, they decided they liked working with each other a lot and decided to form a duo instead. In early spring 2006, Nichika was officially formed.
In February 2007, the duo debuted with their major single “Edelweiss”. Their second single, later in the year called “Genius Party”, was used as the ending theme song for a STUDIO 4°C animation DVD of the same name.
In 2008 the due released their third single “Atarashii Mizu”, which was followed by their self-titled debut album.
Later that same year they released their fourth single “Aijou” and in 2009 they released the single “River’s Edge” which would be their last.
The news of their disbandment was first announced by Miyamoto through her blog on December 15, 2009. A few days after it was finally posted on their official site on the 23rd.
