Namiki’s first projects were for Taito / Allumer, working as co-sound designer for arcade titles such as Rezon and Blandia. From hereon his career can be split into three periods:
1993-1995 - Worked for NMK / Banpresto / Jaleco
The beginning of his “Office Work” period, where he earned the nickname さんたるる after a communication error led to his contribution to Thunder Dragon 2 being credited as such, instead of さんたろ [Mr. Taro]. Other notable work from this period includes Bomb Jack Twin, P-47 Aces and two Super Spacefortress Macross arcade titles.
1995-2000 - Worked for Eighting
By now Namiki’s style and influence were very much established in Battle Garegga, Armed Police Batrider and two Bloody Roar titles. Whether by choice or fate, (or simply by console ports) more home videogames were getting his treatment.
2000-Present - Freelance for Hitoshi Sakimoto’s ベイシスケイプ company
Where arcade games are concerned, Namiki reserves his talents mostly for CAVE Shmups, which expand on the techno style espoused by his work on Battle Garegga, especially in DoDonpachi Dai-Ou-Jou and ESPGALUDA II. He has also supplied music for a range of Gameboy Advance and PlayStation2 titles via Broccoli, Bandai Namco and SCEI.
Worthy of note are the 11 tracks contributed to SNK’s Metal Slug 6, which revisit classic Metal Slug themes and bring some of the motifs of Armed Police Batrider to the mix. Compare Chasing Gang, Need Speed to Aim High, Chase Fast for an example.
