Ibaraki, Japan (1997 – present)

ムック (MUCC) is a band formed in Ibaraki, Japan in 1997. The band has four members: 逹瑯 (Tatsurou Iwakami, vocals), ミヤ (Masaaki Yaguchi, guitar), YUKKE (Yusuke Fukuno, bass) and SATOち (Satochi Takayasu, drums). In 1997, ex-member Hiro was the bassist, replaced by YUKKE in 1999.

The band’s name, decided upon by guitarist ミヤ, was originally the name of a character from the Japanese children’s program “Ponkickies.” The band is also known as “six-nine” from a play on words, since six-nine can be pronounced “muku” (六九) in Japanese. June 9th (6/9) is also known as “MUCC day” by their fans.

In 2000 the band had their first interview in the monthly publication FOOL’S MATE, issue 221. TATTOO (on vocals) changed his name to Tatsurou and the band’s name MUCC was changed to ムック (pronounced MUKKU). On 6/9 (“MUCC day”) they released their first CD single “娼婦/廃” (Shoufu/Hai) and a second press of their album “アンティーク” (Antiiku).

They went on their first tour in Europe in 2005 after they had been signed by the French label Soundlicious, which released their full albums. They mainly performed in France and Germany. In 2006 they were contacted by the German label GAN-SHIN and started a new tour in Germany. In August of 2006 they performed at Ram’s Head Live for Otakon, their first United States performance. Their biggest European tour was in spring 2007 when they released their album “極彩” (Gokusai). They visited the United Kingdom, Sweden, Finland, France, Switzerland and Germany. Their concerts in Germany were a coupled tour with the band BALZAC. In May they performed in the United States for the second time during the J-rock Revolution Festival.

ジオラマ is really good! I love the guitar melody at the start, and the guitar solo is impressive. Tatsuro's voice is really on form as well. I do like Freesia, but this song is 2x as good.

Yeah, Diorama is a Christmas mood like song. And it's actually good. Seriously, WTF. A Christmassy song that is good?! MUCC just did the impossible.

Diorama is really nice change from "more auto-tune" direction. I didn't expect much from christmas/winter song, but overall it has something magical :)

ジオラマ is really good actually, but I didn't understood why they released this as an "DIGITAL single"? It's better than Freesia ffs!!

On Diorama, nice song, in a christmas mood, and quite similar to Freesia, but I liked That one more. Notable but not exceptional if you ask me.

Cure4thecommon, Don't be sorry. As you I look for good music, but also I don't want good musicians such as MUCC to be stucked in one level and not reaching the ones upon that or stay allways in their safe zone. I think MUCC has reached their highest technical mark in therms of performance and composicion in metal, rock nu metal, to name a few, but they have been playing with the same resources for too long in my opinion. I think that using the resources they are usin now was great when it was a new thing for MUCC fans but now I woulld like them to move on. But I won't complain al all if they don't because as I said, they still do great music and I can not spect my desires to be real, it's just stupid xD. Also, maybe MUCC surprises me with another change but not in the way I like... and I like it even more. They have the capacity of doing surprising exciting things just like Rauken.

I understand. Sorry about the misunderstanding. I don't agree with you about the new songs, however. I think there is plenty of passion and energy in them. I think assuming all of their new songs will be slow is getting a bit ahead of ourselves. Their singles always tend to be lighter than the rest of the album. So, MUCC's history would suggest there is no need t worry about that. Though,- how much- heavier the album will be is not so easy of a guess. I personally don't care if the songs are mellow and electronic. As long as they keep in the same quality of composition that I expect from the band, I'll be happy. I'm sorry if you won't.

cure4thecommon I'm afraid you misundertood I may have some more info on MUCC's situation, but I must ask your perdon, I was just exposing my opinion on the late comments here on last.fm. Of course I have no interest of spreading any kind rumor. English is not my mother languaje, so maybe I just not expressed myself correctly. On the ballads topic, of course I do like them but I would like the energetic passion to that uncharted territories you mention. I think experimentating is good but I would not like MUCC to have all their new song from now on slowed down in comparison with their previous songs. Also, I think that if the want to try new things, do not stick with electronics arrangements... there are tons of interestin musical resources this marvellous band could use sucessfully.
