チャットモンチー (chatmonchy) is a three-member poprock band consisting of 橋本絵莉子 (Hashimoto Eriko, guitar & lead vocals), 高橋久美子 (Takahashi Kumiko, drums), and 福岡晃子 (Fukuoka Akiko, bass). They hail from Tokushima, one of Japan’s most remote corners, on the smallest of the four main islands, Shikoku.

In November 2005, they released a mini album, chatmonchy has come with Ki/oon Records. Some tracks from this album are included on their first proper album, 「耳鳴り」(Miminari), released in July 2006.

With the release of the popular single 「シャングリラ」(Shangrila) in November 2006, the band gained more exposure and started to reach a wider audience. Since then they have released two singles,「女子達に明日はない」(Joshi-tachi ni Ashita wa nai) in April, and the double A-side 「とび魚のバタフライ / 世界が終わる夜に」(Tobiuo no Butterfly / Sekai ga Owaru Yori ni) in June.

On September 5, the band releases the single Daidai (橙 ?). It debuts at number 12 on the Oricon single charts.
On October 24, the band releases the album Seimeiryoku (生命力 ?). It debuts at number 2 on the Oricon album charts.
On November 28, the band releases their first DVD, Chatmonchy Restaurant Appetizer (チャットモンチー　レストラン　前菜 ?).
On February 27, 2008, the band releases the single Hira Hira Hiraku Himitsu no Tobira (ヒラヒラヒラク秘密ノ扉 ?) and the live DVD Chatmonchy Restaurant Soup (チャットモンチー　レストラン　スープ; ?). The single debuts at number 11 on the Oricon single charts.

I only discovered this band a few days ago so I didn't hear any of the singles prior to the album but I think Kokuhaku is one of the finest albums I've heard this year. CAT WALK and Yodan are the only songs I would consider filler, the rest is finely-tuned rock/pop awesomeness. Such a summery album, I love it. What album should I listen to next?
