Japanese all girl trio - blending elements of punk, avant garde, free jazz, ska, surf and funk.

つしまみれ (tsushimamire) was formed in 1999 when Mari, Yayoi and Mizue were still University Students. The three began performing in clubs in Chiba prefecture and released their 1st demo CD 「ハンバーガーセット」 (HAMBURGER SET) in 2001, which was followed by another demo CD 「流血モヒカン」 (BLOODY MOHAWK). In 2004 the band toured across the United States with fellow all-girl bands BLEACH, NOODLES and Kokeshi Dolls, including a stop at the world-famous music event, South by Southwest (SXSW) in Austin, Texas. Their debut album, 「創造妊娠」 (Pregnant Fantasy), was released from BENTEN TOKYO that summer. During March 2005 the girls yet again toured the states on the “Japan Girls Nite US Tour, tagging with girl-bands Noodles, Titan Go King’s and Petty Booka. The tour took place in major cities such as NY, LA, SF, Chicago and Boston. It ended in a huge success, with both California showcases gathering a large audience that exceeded 400 people. The crowd loved the bands (especially because they were different from the ordinary girls-bands) and the girls responded by offering a dazzling performance. tsushimamire’s name spread across the nation and they are still frequently spoken about amongst music fans as one of the best Japanese girl-bands. BENTEN LABEL will start to release Japanese artists in the United States, with tsushimamire set to become the label’s first local release.

For anyone interested: Pregnant Fantasy [2004]: Solid album with many classics. No-Miso Shortcake [2007]: Best mini-album i've possibly ever heard. Tsushimamire to Rock to Beer de [2008]: Mini album with a couple of the band's best softer rock songs. Six Mix Girls [2008]: Powerpuff Girls themed mini-album. Just a fun filled CD. A, Umi Da [2009]: Probably the heaviest and most frantic from them, I reckon most fans are torn between adoring and not liking as much with this one. Sex on the Beach [2010]: Their most accessible album, with a great blend of mental songs and pop tunes. Giving Blood [2011]: The noisiest album, with some incredible moments in there. Shocking [2012]: Concept album with brilliant hard rock songs, chanting and pop tunes - bit of everything. (All opinions, mind, but anyone who is wondering -- check them out, there's something fresh, new and different on every release!!)
