I guess because I'm not really into soundtracks in general, it's going to take more for me to like one. Most game soundtracks don't really stand out as more than background music to me, but DQ's Symphonic Suites do, along with a few others. Purely opinion. No one's right or wrong. *shrug*

Enokii @Ayuxx You're wrong. Most japanese good games have good music...example: Star Ocean, Tales of symphonia, Kingdom Hearts, Dark Chronicle...etc etc

DQVII Symphonic Suite is by far my favorite video game soundtrack. I've been playing the Dragon Warrior/Quest games since I was like 11-12, and I've always noticed and liked the music. It's more than I can say for a lot of games.

PrincessOvelia Gotta say Dragon Quest IX is a bit disappointing... many pieces are just (inferior) imitations of his earlier works. Still, the style itself is highly entertaining, and considering his age, I have nothing else to complain.

TalentlessTroll The soundtrack alone makes me want to re-play VIII. All the music just fits the game. Its perfect. Actually the music is pretty much the reason I replay DQ games. Not that the games are not fun, but the music is just great.

Excrono A very talented composer whose work for the Dragon Quest series is among the best in this genre (VGM). As far as his political views go it doesn't bother me, he is entitled to his opinion (even if it is distorted.) Just because you like an artist doesn't mean you have to agree with their ideology.

I was really disappointed when I heard about this extreme-right wacko thing. I am a Chinese myself so I was quite hurt by that. I still enjoy his music but I can't forgive this. I just hope we (China and Japan) would not become enemies again. Sigh...

ElTigreNegro Mr Sugiyama might be a nationalistic wacko, but that still doesn't change the fact that he's a great composer. Wagner was another, and that doesn't take any credit away from his compositions.
