(1985 – 1987)

While still in the おニャン子クラブ (Onyanko Club), members 高井麻巳子 (Takai Mamiko) and 岩井由紀子 (Iwai Yukiko) formed the duo of うしろゆびさされ組 (Ushiroyubi Sasaregumi). At first glance, they seemed to be an odd couple due to the height difference - Mamiko was around 5’ 4” (~162cm) while Yuyu barely reached 4’ 11” (~150cm). But the 2 girls actually worked out quite well providing both a visual and vocal contrast - Mamiko had a more mature voice while Yuuyu seemed eternally stuck in prepubescence. Being current members of the おニャン子クラブ had it’s perks - the rest of the girls would happily provide a massive vocal back-up for the duo.

うしろゆびさされ組 made their television debut on 30 September 1985. Over the course of the group’s career, they released six singles, three albums, a concert video, and two photobooks (in addition to the anime TV series ハイスクール!奇面組 “High School! Kimengumi” soundtrack albums). The group disbanded after Mamiko’s graduation from おニャン子クラブ on 5 April 1987. Afterward, they went to relatively successful solo careers.
