Maman started showing his interest in the Mongolian tradition and music at a very young age, and he got the nickname of “Throat Chopper” at the age of 8. He is, by far, the youngest man to master the Huumii technique.
Even though he was a virtuso using the Huumii technique, he decided to have a country career using the Huumii technique, recording (but not releasing) an experimental music album, “The Cowboys from Mongolia”. Despite that, the record never made it to the market though there are some very rare bootlegs of it and is regarded as one of the greatest Country music recordings outside of the United States, because of it peculiar and experimental nature.
In 2002, Maman decided to get back to the traditional mongolian style, and started recording his first single, “The King And I” which, to this date, is regarded as one of Matan’s best works, mostly because of the other song in the single, the highly acclaimed “Smart in Chelm”, which features a very long Huumii solo by Matan himself. The lyrics, that get mainly a bibical context, are written by Matan, are exceptional too.
