אלג’יר (“Aljir”) was an Israeli Rock band that incorporated , influences and Jewish cantillations in their music. formed in 1992 by frontman Aviv Guedj, guitarist Gavriel Belachsan and drummer Dvir Lavie. the band had only become famous in 2004 due to the release of their second and final album, מנועים קדימה (“Meno’im Kadima”). Founders Aviv Guedj and Gavriel Belachsan, both born and raised in Talmei-Eliayahu in the Negev Desert, met in the Psychiatric Hospital of Abarbanel:

After some hard time in looking for a spiritual way and learning in a Yeshiva in Jerusalem, Aviv had attempted a suicide by jumping off a bridge and was handed over to the mental hospital under one roof with Belachsan, who suffers from a Bipolar Disorder since a young age.

אלג’יר had announced the band’s disbandment on 27.2.2006.
