8 Months late: Nick's Musical Review of 2007

The reason I do this now is that in a lot of cases it takes a while to fully digest some albums; for instance, it took me more than a year and half to appreciate Opeth's Ghost Reveries--in fact, there was a part of me that reviled that album for a long time. The other reason is because I meant to do this months ago and the sheer amount of real work I had to do interfered with the work I wanted to do. And a bit of laziness.

So here it is, my review of albums for the year 2007: The best and the disappointments, and a few noteworthy items as well. I hope that I don't miss anything too obvious, but I think that everything of utmost importance will be here.

The Top Albums of 2007:

+ Dream Theater - Systematic Chaos
When I first heard this album in July I wasn't a fan. I hadn't even finished digesting album artist=Dream Theater]Octavarium[/album] yet (and I didn't like it either at that point). …

This year's song contest is over, but the next one is definately comming. All my life I always detained myself from watching this pitiful mockerie of an intellectual music show with quality music. So here is a list of songs that would make me actually watch the show. Let's limit the number of slots to a maximum of 20, as I would like to create a "Mixtape" (rather a CD) of it and a normal CD only holds a maximum of 80 minutes of music.
So, let the fun begin.

I could not bring myself to write proper reviews due to a lack of motivation and time constraints so I took the liberty of providing some of my favorite reviews for twenty of my favorite records from 2007. The cliché and utter shite year journal that just has to be done… Might, go a bit further than albums this year. Might.

First off I haven’t heard a few albums I expect to be utter gold… That is My Downfall, Parades, Fas - Ite, Maledicti, in Ignem Aeternum and Planet Ice, only really got into Minus the Bear, real recently though.

I’ll start with a cheap and easy top albums in genres and what not...

A smallish list, but it’s not exactly the widest genre.. Neurosis and Jesu are included here for my ease as I feel they fit better here than in Metal.. Jesu released about a million CD/12”/ in about a million different forms.. Sundown/Sunrise (which I have with my Japanese edition of Conqueror) is by far Justin’s best out put this year.. Though I haven’t listened to any of those hundred million Final mini-release type things, or whatever they were. …
