Saint Petersburg, Russian Federation (2006 – present)

Samodiva is a Russian folk rock band from St. Petersburg, Russia. Maria Smolia and Natalia Dudova found the band on 14th of December 2006. Later a bass player and guitarist joined the band and were replaced by others, currently Igor Ashenbrener is playing bass and Pavel Alexeev is on guitar; in late 2007 after some gigs with session drummers Sergey Svitko joined the band as a permanent member responsible for percussion.

The band released one album so far, titled “Самодива”.

Samodivas are woodland fairies found in South-Slavic folklore and mythology, commonly depicted as ethereal maidens with long loose hair, sometimes also with wings.
