Biography
Singer and poet Olga Arefieva can do too many things for one person. This beautiful woman grown up from romantic violent hippies has become known as the author of the poetic songs with surprisingly graceful and touching melodies. She has graduated from The Musical Institute named after the Gnessins, founded the “Kovcheg” band, issued 10 albums, got the literary prize of “Znamja” magazine for her poems, joined The Writers League of Russia and continues to develop herself, realizing new projects. It’s amazing how the same voice copes with her own works, aria of alto from “St. Matthew Passion” by Bach, almost decadent theatre of song, Russian folk Shrovetide calls, and inhuman creaks, wheezes and mutters, rivalling with Sainkho Namtchylak. She can transform everything to the rock hymn. Even the avant-garde theatre “KALIMBA”, which she founded under the influence of “DEREVO” theatre, and in which she sings almost nothing, but moves so that “Nezavisimaja” newspaper called the work by “KALIMBA” the best dance performance of the season. Her body expresses not less than her voice, and it is so mush transparent and inclined to transformations and changes of faces. We can never know what she will be the next time.
