Á Túr were a “hardcore feminist” band signed to Iceland’s eclectic Smekkleysa label during the 90s. Despite this fearsome sounding description their music was as beautiful as it was (sometimes) brutal.

They produced an album, Píka, mixed by Jónsi (Sigur Rós) which is available via iTunes. The band split up as soon as the album was out.

Popular slogan for the teenage angst feministic band: “A woman, who isnt a feminist, is no woman!”

Bandmembers:
Elísabet Ólafsdóttir: singer

Frída Rós Valdimarsdóttir: piano and organ

Kristbjörg Kristjánsdóttir: cello

Help on EP:
Curver Thoroddsen: beatmaker and producer

Olífía Erla Svansdóttir: transverse flute on Móðir mín

Diljá Kristjánsdóttir sang with Elísabet Ólafsdóttir on Móðir mín

If anyone does know of anywhere in the UK or online where Píka can be bought on CD, i'd love to hear. Also, doesn't ANYONE know anything about who is (or was) in this group?

This band is from Smekkleysa records. iTunes seems to have recently got hold of lots of bands from this label. That includes this one: iTunes has their album Píka.
