Biography

Is [+] Z.e.t.a. X just a strange name, an enigmatic formula or a musical mystery? The answer sounds simple but also complex.
On the one hand, [+] Z.e.t.a. X is a short version of the mathematical Zeta-function , which summarizes the inifinity of endless orders of mathematic number. On the other hand, it is a synonym for a magic “world formula”.

But more than anything else, [+] Z.e.t.a. X is the name of a band and an artistic concept which transcends the usual limitations which are common in the mainstream music business. Within the last couple of years, this band was able to not only gain a cult status in the independent music scene, but also to build up a loyal fan base.

Two multi-faceted musicians and unusual musical and lyrical ideas hide behind the synonym of [+] Z.e.t.a. X. Both C*W*K and Ralph Maten have worked in the most diverse musical fields and in an array of different bands. Since 1999 they have chosen [+] Z.e.t.a. X as their main artistic project.

The band history so far speaks for itself: The debut album “Feoh” (2001) became an insider recommendation worldwide. In a number of live gigs (among others, two times at the huge German MeraLuna Open-Air (supporting, among others, Marilyn Manson, Him, Wolfsheim, Soft Cell and the Sisters of Mercy) and at the Wave-Gothic meeting in Leipzig (among artists such as Laibach, Witt and Atrocity) the band was able to gain enthusiastic reactions from the crowds.

With their new album “7 Cultures” [+] Z.e.t.a. X continue the concept which was started with “Feoh”, but without copying or repeating a well-known formula. The band and their music have developed into a new direction, keeping the good trademarks, but implicating new sounds, styles and ideas. Therefore, the band is now ready to make the step away from a solely independent group towards a more more general musical direction.

[+] Z.e.t.a. X sound more epic, but also more aggressive and more melancholic than most groups in the electronic music, wave and gothic sector. Alltogether, their music is more sophisticated and melodic than it is the common case in this field: Heavy guitar riffs mingle with elaborate keyboard melodies, original sound effects and extremely versatile and wide-ranged vocals.

The group also has no limitations concerning the visual adaption of their music. For each performance and each occasion the basic line-up may be enlarged with additional dancers, musicians, artists and performers. So, in every respect [+] Z.e.t.a. X is a band which transcends traditional borders or standardized classifications.
