Tzanda was founded by Ikkyo Mahl and The Crane at the turn of the millennium amidst an extremely active bedroom electronica scene in Nottingham. Influenced more by the catchy melodics of the Morr label than by contemporary IDM, Tzanda’s many affiliates submitted dozens of beautiful tracks in a wide variety of styles… however, due to financial restraints and poor management, the music was never distributed as widely as it deserved to be. The only ‘official’ Tzanda releases were a couple of compilations (Tzampla 1 & 2) which were produced as limited runs on CDR and sold on an extremely haphazard basis, but until 2005 more material was available via tzanda.net (now closed). The label was shut down in 2005 when it became clear that many Tzanda contributors were no longer making music, had lost touch with the label’s management, or had decided to pursue music careers properly instead of messing around with such amateurishly-run concerns. It was fun while it lasted.
