Hey Folks,

Great first review from Leeds guide for the fab new album from Pifco.

What an awfully jolly album for this Leeds-based three piece. Delivering The Payload is the second album from Pifco in their six years as a band, and it’s a delight in a truly skew-whiff way.

Released on the ever-reliable Yorkshire label Run of the Mill, who have previously put out records by noisy, off-kilter Leeds acts like Quack Quack, Bilge Pump, d’Astro and That Fucking Tank, this record definitely deserves a place in the label’s portfolio.

There are plenty of easy comparisons to pull up here, perhaps most notably the oddball party rock tunes of Devo and the wilful difficulty of The Fall. But Pifco don’t do musical plagiarism.

The sound centres round the jerking guitar chords and Devo-esque yelped vocals of Steve, the impressive combination of simple, driving drum lines and simple key lines from Mary and the simple “small keyboard” riffs from Moz (who can also be seen in Leeds bands Two Minute Noodles, Quack Quack, Chops and The Declining Winter).

It’s a glorious, electro-tinged race through the best indie records of 80s and 90s. And, most importantly, it’s just simply great fun.
