Waxploitation was founded in 1996 as a boutique record label and artist management company working with innovative artists and unique projects.

The company is best known for developing the careers of the Grammy Award winning group Gnarls Barkley and Grammy Award winning artist/producer Danger Mouse as well as the Grammy nominated band Broken Bells, and Dangerdoom (with Danger Mouse and MF DOOM). Other projects have included Dark Night of the Soul (with David Lynch, Danger Mouse, Sparklehorse and guests including the Flaming Lips, Julian Casablancas), and ROME (with Danger Mouse, Jack White, and Norah Jones).

Waxploitation developed and managed Danger Mouse’s producing career from 2003 to 2010, a period of time when Danger Mouse produced albums by Gorillaz, The Black Keys, and Beck to name a few.

Waxploitation produced and released the Causes 1 and Causes 2 album series to benefit the work of Oxfam, Human Rights Watch and Médecins Sans Frontières. The albums include songs from Animal Collective, The Decemberists, The Black Keys, The Shins, Bright Eyes, Diplo, Spoon, LCD Soundsystem, Devendra Banhart, Bloc Party, and Death Cab for Cutie among many others.
The company publishes artists including Black Moth Super Rainbow, and Tobacco.
