Sturm, the driving force of Latvian culture, emerged from the real underground concrete ruins of Soviet Latvia in April 1998 with a series of legendary parties involving local noise artists and porn/shock performances. By the time it was the only industrial event in the Baltic region, reviving memories of the early 90’s when a semi-legal club “Next” in a medieval basement was the place for untamed punk, metal, industrial and darkwave nights. The movement has retained its uncompromising stance and attitude throughout the years. Sturm is releasing Latvian and related musicians since 2000, and has been hosting industrial gatherings for industrial people with live performances by local and guest projects. Thanks to these events, industrial subculture virus has spread out in the Latvia, providing environment and conditions for a generation of local industrial artists.
