Smalltown America is an independent record label based in London. It was set up in 2001 to release Zero For Conduct, the first Jetplane Landing album, and as of 2007 we have released albums and singles from a whole bunch of artists, as well as nine (and counting!) volumes of our critically-acclaimed Public Service Broadcast compilation series.

Our aim is to cultivate a sustainable business model through which artists can release the best records they can possibly produce whilst simultaneously getting them into the hands of those who want to hear them. We try not to view things simplistically as “us” and “them” – independent music making isn’t a war against the majors. The bottom line is that good music needs to be heard, however it’s manufactured.

As of spring 2009, our roster consists of Alan MX, And So I Watch You From Afar, Calories, Clone Quartet, Fighting With Wire, Jetplane Landing, Let Our Enemies Beware and The Young Playthings. In the past, we have also issued releases by Fickle Public and Oppenheimer.

In 2008 we began distributing the output of Brighton’s Faux Discx imprint. The first releases from this dragon-slaying partnership were the debut albums by An Emergency and The Light Sleepers, and a vinyl edition of This Town Needs Guns’ debut album, Animals.

We’re always on the lookout for new stuff, and we’d just love for you contact us and tell us about your favourite new band that we just have to hear!
