SM Entertainment is a major producer of & is the management agency of several South Korean pop stars. Initially standing for the creator Lee Soo Man’s initials, it now stands for Star Museum (alluding to the success of their singers). The company’s current CEO is Kim Youngmin. SM Entertainment also co publishes Japan’s Avex Trax albums for artists, such as Ayumi Hamasaki, Namie Amuro & Kumi Koda.

Lee started by surveying what teenage girls wanted to see in music groups, with this information, he started the boy band H.O.T. & girl group S.E.S… Strongly successful from the beginning, both groups became two of the top 90s k-pop groups.
