Mystic Records is a record label and music promotion company based in Oceanside, California. Mystic is not a member of the RIAA, but is a member of Affiliated Independent record Companies (AIRCO). It specializes in underground, psychedelia, vintage, and cult records. In addition, it carries some mainstream punk acts, such as NOFX. It is owned and operated by Doug Moody. Some of the most famous acts who were discovered on Mystic records are No FX, Dr. Know, Ill Repute, Suicidal Tendencies, The Mentors, The Grim, Doggy Style, Agression, Batallion of Saints, Teacherz, The Stain, The Steppes and America’s Hardcore. Other Famous bands that recorded for mystic include: Government Issue, Bad Religion, The Minutemen and Black Flag,

Mystic is credited with several important innovations in the independent record industry. Mystic is the only label establish its reputation by promoting totally unknown artists in large numbers putting out over 100 records featuring over 300 bands in a two year period. Mystic invented Super Sevens, 7” vinyl records that played at 33 rpm speed, allowing 4 or more songs per 7” record. This format was copied by other indy labels most notably Sub Pop. Mystic owner Doug Moody invented Webbing. He put out 7” and 12” records on various bands but also included many of those bands on compilations. He promoted various products each band was on, on the covers of each product he put out. This created cross demand for all of the products the band was on.
