Moxie Oxid

Wiki

Moxie Oxid - the label - began in 1994 as the personal publishing label of jPeMelin for amateur demo tapes. It was reinstituted in 2006 for on-line publishing purposes. Since then Moxie Oxid Records have broadened its perspective a little.
Demo tapes and home recorded music is a main interest and the process of creating a personal digital archive of my demo tape collection has come a long way I intend for the label to set out to find the creators of specific odd items in the collection of dormant and dead bands.
Moxie Oxid will offer the administrative help and this existing label for making these rare recordings available for streaming to the last.fm community and the world.

It is the intention of Moxie Oxid to encourage the artists to take action themselves to publish their material. Preferably to pick up their instruments and take up production again. But when their own time or resources are not available, Moxie Oxid will offer help.

Here’s our release history presented backwards in time.

NEWEST RELEASES:
August 2008:
Alter Ego (4) was a shortlived ebm band from Hofors in Sweden, possibly the town’s only synthband ever. Atleast it was at the time in the late 80s anyway.

Alter Ego played live in Hofors twice and never released any music, but several tracks were recorded for friends and have survived thanks to these tapes.

Alter Ego was started by Mikael Mäntylä (now solo as MICCO) and Kent Norling (presently in DUTY) but Stefan Glawing and Mikael occasionally made up the band informally. Included in this release, Industricity (an invented name for the compilation since there never were any original albums) are songs by the band as well as individual tracks by Mikael or Kent and by Mikael and Stefan together. Which are done by which constellation is not entirely clear any longer, apart from that Mikael and Stefan made the track Midway together. The lyrics for Midway are read directly from an article about the Battle of Midway in a WWII history book.

Most songs, especially those attributed to Mikael and Kent who together were the proper Alter Ego were done in several takes from which only the best remaining recordings of each were chosen for this compilation.

For the record there’s a bunch of bands called Alter Ego of whom two are swedish ebm bands from the period 1988-1992. The other similar band participated on the Memento Materia compilation “Autumn Leaves” in 1992 with the track “Deviate” and is not the same as the Hofors Alter Ego.

June 2008:
Acrope is one of my own old projects again.
I was invited to join the band when I met Andreas Cromnow in Borlänge in 1992. He was a keyboardist inspired heavily by Depeche Mode and Ultravox.
Esa Ahonen who had started the band with Andreas was into symphonic rock in the vein of IQ, Anyones Daughter and Marillion. I as a singer and lyricist, then with a deep addiction to Lustans Lakejer, Reeperbahn and The The and a bit of megalomania, pretention and overdone theatrics helped bring the mix to an all together odd experience I dare say. When I left for Uppsala in 1994 we drifted apart socially and Esa and Andreas ended up in Cryonic Temple!

This release is the three track tape called “demo 94 (single)” that we recorded for the record companies. The nine track full length tape “Till Acropia” will eventually replace this single on last.fm.

mini release June 2008:
Men+Mathematics is a private project that was never finished. This june I planned to perform some songs of this project at FFFFFF-festivalen in Falun. For promotion I released a single called COSTEAU in my livingroom (single) with one instrumental track and a track with planned lyrics for it that had never got recorded though. Finally at the festival I ended up only playing songs from my Moxie Oxid … catalog.

The next release Moxie Oxid release is planned for september and there are a few candidates for it. Check back, or join the group Demo Tapes for updates.

April 2008:
Poetica Grotesque (subsequently Blipp!) has already been presented here in january 2008. Their second demo tape “Monolog (remastered)” from 1990 is now also available for streaming.
The tapes have been remastered by Mats Ericsson (of Blipp!/Poetica Grotesque) himself.

February 2008:
Dockan lever is a band from Göteborg that I suddenly with no effort managed to convince that publishing on last.fm was a terrific idea. They were made infamous in Gothenburg in the early 90s for a select few. It is very possible she still don’t like them.
Listen to selections from their career on Worst of Dockan Lever!

Winter 2007-8:
Poetica Grotesque (subsequently Blipp!) is a swedish synthpop act from Falun. They surfaced as an Amiga-tracker based band in 1990 with some excursions into ebm and industrial territory. The first demo “Fragment (remastered)” from 1990 is available for streaming and selected download on last fm, since january 2008. The second demo “Monolog (remastered)” is available since february 2008. Both tapes have been remastered by Mats Ericsson himself (of Blipp!/Poetica Grotesque) who like me is also a great fan and collector of Arvid Tuba, an artist i hope to publish in the near future. Mats also recently began a new project called Melodia Trio with some friends in his hometown. Keep your eyes open for them too.

Autumn 2007:
The project to bring old amateur music to the web is now up and running. Schakt Neun is a great old school ebm act from Rättvik at the time of it release, too good to be kept away from the public. The demo “The Grave” from 1991 is available for streaming and selected download on last fm, since october 2007.

[THE BEGINNING:
Jim’s original and personal projects include Body Mass Index and Moxie Oxid … which were first out to be published on tape in the nineties and on-line for the first time in 2006. Then followed the experimental group Analogue Media with it’s brand new last.fm specific art/music installation You Can’t Scrobble Vinyl [ep] and You Can’t Scrobble Analogue Media which enables possibilities to pseudo-scrobble a larger variety of non scrobblable music.

Songs will eventually be made available from more personal related projects like Acrope, Moxie Oxid …, Men+Mathematics, Body Mass Index and other incidental compositions.
