Monkey Records was formed in the year 2000 by musician/producer Nigel Braddock to nurture and support innovative New Zealand artists. Since then they have released over thirty albums of high quality original music from Aotearoa/NZ. Monkey Records began life as an ambient/downbeat label but has since broadened its horizons to encompass indie-pop, world, fusion, psychedelic and acoustic/folk recordings. Over the last ten years Monkey has built up a solid reputation as one of New Zealand’s most forward thinking labels and were described at one point by Metro magazine as “possibly the most exploratory label in New Zealand right now. ” Monkey Records has also spawned two sister companies: Key Management – which has booked and promoted over 400 gigs for Monkey artists in NZ & Europe over the last five years and Monkey Publishing which has had considerable success in licensing tracks from the Monkey catalogue in the USA, Europe and Asia.
