Locust Music is a small Chicago based label. Since around 2001, we’ve issued recordings that cover a variety of styles from psychedelic pop, spoken word, peculiar sound art to earthen folk, jazz and vintage electronic music. We get just as fired up over the opportunity to do a little archeology and publish a lost gem as we do in savoring the new sounds of the many terrific artists who are a part of our current line up.

Over the last several years, we’ve launched a number of side trips - IKEF records , Latitude Disc - to accomodate different areas of interest. If you enjoy what locust has to offer, we encourage you to check into our other activities in the outer boroughs of sound.

Here’s what some kind folks have had to say about Locust Music:
“Most iconic record labels have thrived on consistency—think of the sounds identified with Blue Note, Factory and Motown. Imprints with more diverse outputs can be harder to pin down. Interestingly, the Chicago indie Locust Music has developed into a reliable indicator of good taste, even though its artists have little in common besides eccentricity.” - Time Out New York

“Chicago-based record label Locust Music knows how to expose their artists to the world in the most wonderful of ways.” - Anthem

“Chicago’s locust music is one of those labels in which a discerning and adventurous record buyer could put his trust; the kind of label that understands the thrill of discovery that stimulates every record seekers perpetual travels” - Stop Smiling Magazine
“If Locust Music, which to date has issued records by artists as, er, “free ranging” as Apothecary Hymns, Cast King, Josephine Foster, Lau Nau, Sir Richard Bishop (Sun City Girls) and Steffen Basho-Junghans, recommends anything — guitarists, chickens or otherwise — we’re confident of the quality.” - Harp

“One of Chicago’s most diverse & independent record labels…that releases fine, fine records spanning the musical spectrum” - UR Chicago

“Locust is one of those labels with an amazing ability to hunt down unusual artists from across the globe of the highest caliber.” - Boomkat

“invaluable” - The Brooklyn Rail

“Without getting too teary-eyed, Locust Music is certainly a cultural resource of immeasurable quality.” -Indieworkshop

“Locust Music specializes in music too weird to be considered old-fashioned” - The New York Times
