Harkit Records was founded in 1999 by Michael Fishberg for the purposes of reissuing collectable and hard to find “cult” soundtracks. During the course of its history, it has issued music by world renowned composers such as Jerry Goldsmith, John Barry, Lalo Schifrin, Maurice Jarre, Krzysztof (Christopher) Komeda and many others. It has also released contemporary film music, and gave the first commercial release to Alex Heffes for his dynamic score for the true-life mountaineering epic “Touching The Void” based on a best-selling book of the same name by Joe Simpson. Heffes went on thereafter to score the BAFTA-award-winning movie “The Last King Of Scotland”, and is now much in demand, especially in France, with nearly 40 assignments under his belt.

Also in catalogue is veteran composer Jim Parker’s score for the hugely acclaimed British WWII detective television series “Foyle’s War”.

Occasional “break-outs” from the film score mould delivered a series of jazz music CDs which used rare and previously unreleased recordings from London’s world-famous Ronnie Scott’s Club, which included terrific performances by Sonny Rollins (always impossible to contain in studio recordings!), Stan Getz, Blossom Dearie, J.J. Johnson and others. Further titles in this series which was named “Live In London” included British saxophonist legend Tubby Hayes.

Many of these CDs also included revealing interviews with these artists who were performing “live” in the UK fort the first time. Ronnie’s is currently celebrating its 50th anniversary, and this series is a fitting tribute to the founder’s great vision.
