Song of Reconciliation Debuts at #4 in the Singles Charts
29 Apr 2008, 03:44
The Getup Mob’s ‘From Little Things, Big Things Grow’, featuring well-known Australian performers and the voice of two Prime Ministers, has debuted at #4 in the ARIA charts.
The song, launched last week by Minister for Environment, Heritage and the Arts and former Midnight Oil frontman Peter Garrett, was inspired by February’s apology to the Stolen Generations.
“February’s apology sent forth a tiny ripple of hope that was felt around the nation. We made this song to harness that ripple – this week it has made a splash, rocketing up the charts to take reconciliation to an audience of millions,” said GetUp Executive Director Brett Solomon.
The song is number four on ARIA’s Singles Chart, the highest new entry on the charts, and number two on both the Australian Chart and Digital Track Chart.
This Tuesday night, to further capitalise on the momentum, thousands of Australians will be meeting simultaneously in every corner of the country for GetUp’s ‘Reconciliation GetTogethers’ – where Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians will gather to join the national conversation necessary to achieve reconciliation.
“The fact that this song – the highest entry into the charts and second highest selling Australian song in the nation this week – has made it to the top of the mainstream charts shows that reconciliation can and will be realised. The song has clearly resonated on a scale previously unimaginable, showing that when we work together for a common aim, the sky’s the limit,” said Mr Solomon.
‘The GetUp Mob’ features Kev Carmody, Paul Kelly, Urthboy, Missy Higgins, Mia Dyson, Radical Son, Jane Tyrrell, Dan Sultan, Joel Wenitong, Ozi Batla, and the voices of Kevin Rudd and Paul Keating.
ARIA award winning Hackett Films produced the music video, which features John Butler, Leah Purcell, Pat Dodson, Anthony Mundine and others. For more information on the song go to: http://www.getup.org.au/media/thegetupmob
