  • Distraction Records Newsclout June 2010: new d_rradio album, rude shows, Baby Serious

    4 Jun 2010, 14:10 by distractionrecs

    Attention please, attention PLEASE.

    Quick ones this month. Honest.

FIRST: d_rradio have an album out on August 2nd, it's called Parts, and it's MINT. Going two steps forward from where their Leaves album left off on ace Japanese label symbolic interaction, it's chock-a-block full of earthly and serene atmospheric drones, ambient golden hues, and the hiss, crackle and hum of a hundred tired, well-loved 78s, while oozing the soul that makes d_rradio so vital. Its out on CD, vinyl (250 only with "vintage inner sleeves" (!) and download dropcards), and cassette (50 only), and you can pre-order at a slightly cheaper price now (with discount if you buy all three formats - watch it doesn't get banned from the charts or owt!) We should have the pre-orders ready to despatch next week sometime. You can hear full length tracks previews from our album page. Great!

SECOND: Potty-mouthed casiotone genius Kunt and the Gang hits Sunderland's Independent on Wednesday June 9th (i. …
  • Distraction Records Newsbomb April 2010: FREE Tempelhof mp3s + 12" release + event,…

Distraction Records: hollerin' with the rinsing sound, hollerin' with the rinsing sound.

Right, nee messing about here because we tend to rabbit on with these updates and apparently in internet school they teach you that if you do that then people think "pfffffffft! Not reading anything that big, like." Bite-sized chunks is where it's at these days, apparently.

So then, let's get down with the wickedness. Our Italian showgazey chums Tempelhof have a new 12" single out on May 9th, it's a double a-side (except that both tracks are on one side, confused yet?) with Leaving Home / Cage vying for your attentions and affection. And why lash on the superlatives when you could just download the tracks, check them out for yourself and buy the 12" using our (brand new!) shopping cart on our web site? Like M83? The Album Leaf? Ultramarine? Why sir (or ma'am), here are some links for you:

    Clicky for a rapidshare link
    Clicky for a megaupload link
Clicky for the release page to stream both tracks

    "I'm sold" Losing Today (link)

" album that every idiot was too clunky, too and too lumpen to make, this is the album that Nick Cave should play at home" Unpeeled

"For fans of acts such as Earth, Growing and Jesu, This Beat is Necrotronic is likely to be a hugely enjoyable purchase. . . a splendid debut turned all the way up to eleven, and one which deserves your attention." Bearded Magazine (link)

  • Distraction Records June 2009 Newsmunge

    1 Jun 2009, 12:40 by distractionrecs

    Hello there pop pickers!

Yep, it's been absolutely AGES since we last gave an update, not that we've been resting on our laurels or anything. On the contrary, we've got releases upon releases piled up and we want you to listen to 'em, but we're perfectionists and want everything to be tip-top and spick and span before it gets unleashed upon you all. And, typically, all of the releases seem to be ready all at once, which is VERY CONVENIENT INDEED. Not that we're moaning like.

Anyway, enuff guff, onto Distraktion aktion. The first release upcoming getting us very excited at Distraction Towers is the speaker-kicking noisefest from Necro Deathmort. This Beat Is Necrotronic (DIST19) comes out on CD with limited edition packaging from WT Nelson at Thumbprint Press (those of you that have the Marzuraan Five Years Of Fuck All CD on At War With False Noise or seen the Bastard Noise packaging will know what to expect here), and what a bloody joy to look at it is. …
  • Big Distraction SALE now on!

    3 Feb 2009, 21:54 by distractionrecs

    Alreet?

A few weeks late, but before we kick off with the wanton hard sell, we at Distractionwould like to thank everybody who bought a Distraction record, attended a Distraction event, or simply spread the word about us in 2008; releases-wise we had our most successful year so far and our weekender was the most successful one ever. Whether there will be another one remains to be seen (there won't be one this year). But, aye, anyhow, cheers!

Anyway, we are now adding our own winter sale alongside everybody else's; we've got a hectic release schedule this year, and we need all the space and dosh we can get it to make it happen (especially the dosh; we get our records pressed abroad - not our fault hardly anybody in the UK does custom packaging, before you accuse us of contributing to global climate change - and the pound's dead week so it costs a LOT more to press our records. . .). So! We've knocked tons off ALL our stock, so now's the time to take advantage if you haven't done so already. Get amongst it.
  • Distraction Records November News: High Places this Sunday! The Retail Sectors…

    11 Nov 2008, 22:08 by distractionrecs

Reet up! Two things you should know about this week.

Firstly, Thrill Jockey's High Places hit the Head of Steam in Newcastle this Sunday! Expect a unique and joyous union of world beat, dance music and underground pop drenched in twitchy psychedelic beat-heavy exotic polyrhythms, perhaps the perfect soundtrack for taking a nice Jacuzzi filled with Um Bongo, or something. It's all grand stuff anyway; why not check them out? Why not indeed? They're bloody tip top, and we're tickled pink to have ‘em here. Support comes from Newcastle's don of electronica Cathode (whose new Sparkle Plenty album has been getting repeated plays at the Distraction gaff, hopefully he'll have some on the night), and Nathalie Stern, who's appearance at the Distraction Weekender earlier this year was an highlight for many. Oh, and we have the delightful Summer Night Air Sound System behind the ones and twos, playing the platters the matter. So no excuses! Reserve your place with an advance ticket on ‘da list' now!
  • Distraction Records October News: d_rradio remixed out now! / The Retail Sectors…

    10 Oct 2008, 22:25 by distractionrecs

    Hola!

A bumper great big bag o' updates for y'all this month: releases ahoy. . . news on the events front. . . all that and, as the cliché goes, a bag of chips. So nae messin' about, let's hop and a skip and a jump to it.

This week! The D_rradio Remixed album is released! Waxa eh? There's a wide range of quality remixes, rerubs, rehashes, rewinds and reworkings on offer from the following list of marvellous purveyors of electronic beats: Manual, Depth Affect, The Matinee Orchestra, Cathode, Offthesky, Piano Magic, Matthew Rozeik, Populous, juxta phona, and port-royal! Cor!

And remember! There's only 500 copies left of this - our distributors demands for this have far outstripped supply already on this one, so you don't want to sleep on it. You can always buy this through our website itself (and maybe take advantage of our ‘d_rradio + d_rradio remixed albums for a tenner' offer while stocks last), or from our preferred stockists: RPM, alt.
  • Distraction Records September News: d_rradio remixed / The Retail Sectors /…

    11 Sep 2008, 20:49 by distractionrecs

    Hey!

October 6th sees the release of D_rradio Remixed, the remix album of the critically-acclaimed debut proper long-player by d_rradio.

Limited to 500 copies only, it features reinterpretations, rehashes and reworkings from the creamy crop of electronic music today: the crackling chambertronics of Cathode's rework of Paper Soul, to Manual's exemplary dark, opaque version of A Life Alive, through to the beautiful beat-driven Populous' aptly-named Twisted remix of Rest of Your Life. The journey continues, with Depth Affect's skittering, icily minimal re-rub of Bag of Lovely nestling alongside The Matinee Orchestra's Victorian Clockwork techno take on Wish For More Wishes and Ylid's magnificently haunting vocal rework of Blow Out. Maintaining a suitably high standard are juxta phona turning So Long into a juddering glitchfest, Piano Magic's childlike and sublime reworking of Way Out, Matthew Rozeik's sombre yet swirling light-at-the-end-of-the-tunnel version of Lifted, and finally port-royal's dramatic revamp of Long Way Home.
  • MOIRA STEWART ALBUM OUT NOW!

    16 Apr 2008, 22:12 by distractionrecs

    Hey!

Bit of a late update this one, but we had a good excuse - we were cleaning the Head Of Steam in Newcastle from all the flotsam and jetsam that the Poundland party section provides. . . indeed, the Moira Stewart album launch Moirageddon session was E-number-fuelled adrenalin on a grandiose scale, so many thanks to all those that made it, and apologies to those that didn't (take a deeks at the Moira Stewart myspace to find out when they're playing next) - the place sold out within twenty minutes and so we had to turn a LOT of folk away. . .

So anyway! This week sees the Moira Stewart debut opus maximus 'Sweetness, Yes!!' make its way into many of the world's top record stores, and what a little corker it is: ten tracks, forty-odd minutes worth of sublime electropop to put even a smile on bitter old harridan Carol McGiffen's boatrace. Hell, they should have it on the NHS as a Prozac supplement. And you can buy it from us right NOW from our web site!

  • Moira Stewart 'Sweetness, Yes!' album out next week!

    9 Apr 2008, 21:30 by distractionrecs

First up! The peachy-creamy debut album from electropop rapscallions Moira Stewart! Garnering the plaudits from a range of notable publications (and some rubbish ones too), as well as airplay on Radio 1, Radio 2 and 6Music, er, Skins, 'Sweetness, Yes!' will be hitting the racks on Monday 14th April. You can hear the each album track streamed on our last.fm page too! Bonzer! So hop, skip and jump to our website to order!

It all kicks off at 7.30pm and we URGE you to get there early because it WILL sell out. …
