Cracknation Records was founded in 2002 by Jason Novak, lead singer/songwriter for industrial-metal pioneers Acumen Nation and the drum n’ bass duo DJ? Acucrack. Originally intended as an operating umbrella for the aforementioned acts, Cracknation quickly gained national distribution through Invisible Records and Underground Inc. Over the years they released several acclaimed underground albums from Acumen Nation and DJ? Acucrack, as well as albums from Dean Garcia of Curve, the Iron Lung Corp and the Escape From Earth compilation featuring 16volt, Die Warzau, Chemlab and more.
In 2007, with their relationship with Invisible/UI ending, the label hunkered down and maintained focus on their 2 flagship bands, simultaneously releasing “Humanoids from the Deep” (DJ? Acucrack) and “Psycho the Rapist” (Acumen Nation). The label now offers their entire catalog via their internet store (http://www.cracknation.com/orders) itunes and other digital download sites, and small distribution outlets like Metropolis Records in the states and Storming the Base in Canada. Sadly, this awesome and well-loved catalog has never received official distribution overseas, but the ever-growing digital download retail option has begun to filter their music to Europe, Japan and more.
Most recently in 2008, Cracknation released the newest album from showgazer indie artists FAWN, a live DJ? Acucrack album, and a second volume of unreleased early 90’s electronic/industrial tracks called “Cracknation: Artifacts II: 1989 - 1994” which showcases early work by Novak prior to releasing music under the Acumen/Acucrack monikers.
