CTI which stands for Creed Taylor Incorporated, was a kind of a jazz Motown.
To some it was the successor to Blue Note; had the taste for jazz not faded. To others; a prime cause of the fade in the taste for jazz.
Electric, but swinging. Big studio production. Covers of pop and rock tunes (check Grover Washington’s cover of Frank Sinatra’s Aubrey, and George Benson’s cover of Jefferson Airplane’s White Rabbit - yes, kids, Airplane).

The line up - the stable - was amazing: Grover Washington, Jr. George Benson, Hubert Laws, Billy Cobham, Eric Gale, Bob James, Idriss Muhammad, Freddy Hubbard, a string section to die for, a new plateau in album art, and plenty more.
CTI. If you own even one of their albums (on vinyl, kids) you know what I’m talking about.
