Audrey Kimura’s Benten/Sister Records Label is the best indie rock label in the world. Specializing in hard/punk all-girl rock, the Benten label has discovered and recorded some of the best musicians.
Twice a year she brings to the USA 6 or 8 of the freshest bands from Japan to tour with her ongoing JAPAN NITE festivals. These events have been held for 12 years and tour through New York, Seattle, Texas and San Francisco. Japan Nite is a staple every year in the SXSW Music Festival.
Although CDS from the Benton Label are only available as hard-to-find imports, a few titles are now domestic and can be found through the normal music shopping channels. Petty Booka and The Ampez are two of the most accessable groups. Falsies On Heat and Red Bacteria Vacume are notable mentions. I strongly suggest everyone attend Audrey’s Japan Nite shows and buy as many CDS from her and the bands as possible. They do not disappoint.
