Born in 1957 in Cardiff, Wales Andy Roberts grew up in Cornwall and learned to play guitar at the age of around 14. At 17 he left home and spent two years as a busker in Paris, already writing his own songs as well as performing songs by his favourite songwriters Roy Harper and Loudon Wainwright.
