Take your top 32 artists and pit them against each other in a knock-out style tournament. For each "match", randomly shuffle the artist's songs in iTunes or Spotify and play the first song. that comes up After you play both artist's songs, the artist with the song you preferred goes forward, and so on and so forth.
Some other rules about songs:
1. No song can be played twice
2. No live versions of a song to be played if there are album versions
Here's how my tournament went (artist play rank in brackets):
(1) LCD Soundsystem - Time to Get Away Beat (32) The Cardigans - Burning Down The House
(17) Fall Out Boy - Dance, Dance Beat (16) The Proclaimers - Letter from America
(25) Pendulum - The Island (Part 1) Beat The Hoosiers - Who Said Anything (About Falling In Love)?
(9) Passion Pit - Swimming In The Flood Beat (24) Lady Gaga - Bad Romance

They're listed in alphabetical order by artist/band, there was absolutely no specific formula for this. Some songs are on the list because I feel like it was an important song in history, others simply because I just think it's the greatest song ever made. Some day this list will be perfect in my eyes, and it will be 500 songs, not 300.
AC/DC - You Shook Me All Night Long
AC/DC - Highway to Hell
Alicia Keys - You Don't Know My Name
Animal Collective - Banshee Beat
Animal Collective - Winters Love
The Antlers - Two
Arcade Fire - Neighborhood #1 (Tunnels)
Arcade Fire - Wake Up
Arcade Fire - Rebellion (Lies)
The Avalanches - Since I Left You
The Beach Boys - Wouldn't It Be Nice

Gen 12 2011, 15:36 di dandyboy73The Dandy awards ceremony kicks of with album of the year:
Penny Sparkle by Blonde Redhead
An enthralling album from start to finish. Reminded me a lot of old-school 4AD (think Cocteau Twins or This Mortal Coil; yes it's that good), with a beautiful melancholy that seemed to suit just as well in late summer as it did in midwinter. My Plants Are Dead is my personal favourite, but it really feels like a proper 'mood' album, in the vein of, say Disintegration, ( ) or Victorialand.
Honourable mentions go to:
High Violet by The National
In any other year would have been a dead cert. I only have the last three albums, but tracks like the steely Little Faith, the jolly and downbeat at the same time Anyone's Ghost and the towering Afraid of Everyone must rank amongst the bands finest, even taking into account previous wonders such as Mistaken for Strangers or Squalor Victoria.
