  • Darnielle might dominate but this doesn't sound like a Mountain Goats album. Really great stuff.
  • YEAH! [3]
  • stop tagging this with boring tags, Extra Lens > Indie™
  • Going to have to disagree. Not only does the lower-key profile of the record allow John to revisit some long-neglected aspects of his songwriting (as well as entirely new ones a la "Tug on the Line"), Franklin's arrangements are, without exception, killer... just because his contributions aren't always ostentatious doesn't mean he doesn't distinguish himself! Wonderful record and a great addition to the Darnielle canon, but it stands on its own; I like the Sunset Tree as well as the next guy, but it sure as hell doesn't have a "How I Left the Ministry" on it (which, incidentally, Franklin wrote)!
  • "Given that The Mountain Goats’ quarterback is the focal point of the album, you’d may as well just spend your time with All Hail West Texas, The Sunset Tree, or Heretic Pride."
  • Missing a couple "YEAH"s down there, guys... or nine! A couple spins of "Carmen Cicero" will set you right in no time.
  • awwww yeah.
  • YEAH!
  • you you you you you you guyssss
  • Spectrum Culture just reviewed Undercard - we really loved it!
