Well, I don't really think their sound or genre changed a lot since Heartthrob. In my opinion, every LY2D-song could also be a Heartthrob-song, according to the sound. I don't really mind, even though I was hoping for a little more rock-influenced record like The Con or Sainthood.
Wait, why would T&S leave us? It's not like they're a band; they're not going to break up. They're sisters and lifelong best friends. They'll be making music for as long as they want to, and on that note I'm glad they're willing to alter their sound. I don't want 50 years of the same album rehashed.
disappointed in the new album. IMO their worst. They used synth and tech which i like in my music but they let it take over without using any of their great melodies and hooks they usually come up with. I think The Con is more poppy than this but the The Con is arguably my favorite TNS album. What a let down they went this direction.
I really wouldn't care at all about the new direction if I didn't have the sense of impending doom that is an artist's last albums before retiring. Sure, Heartthrob and Love You aren't the worst albums to ever be recorded, but other than maybe the Plunk demo they're certainly the worst albums T&S ever recorded. If they leave us on this note I will be devastated. The worst part of this sound transition was the lack of warning and lack of necessity, in my opinion. Its hard to justify it as anything more than label pressure or some other form of cash grab, but at the same time its been executed in such an ineffective way on all fronts. Pop beats hardly bother me, all I want is the songwriting quality and soul back that made me fall in love with them in the first place.
T&S changed a lot from their first album to Sainthood even, despite all of that music being guitar-driven. I don't think you could say that synthpop is their new genre any more than you could say that David Bowie is an 80s pop act. The best artists will always change their sound. LYTD is an okay synthpop album, as far as these things go. About half the album is pretty decent for me.
Good luck with the new genre girls...if it would only be some interesting style.
Can anyone tell me if this is a good album by their new genre's standards as I would change the radio station within 10 seconds when such songs come up and have no idea of this kind of music?
I'm actually so glad that, even though I prefer their previous records, I'm still able to enjoy Heartthrob & LY2D. I'm also hoping for some sort of Get Along 2, so we can get a different take on the new songs
