In the last month, courtesy of Last.fm and slsk, I have rediscovered two favorite bands from my formative years, Steamhammer
. Start with the latter band, Taste. Irish guitarist Rory Gallagher led this trio, and both of their albums Taste
and On The Boards
are fully streamable on last.fm. Taste were often compared to Cream, but I think that comparison only goes so far. Taste were not a supergroup and while they never reached the heights of Cream, since they were clearly Gallagher's band, they never suffered from the ego-battles of the drummer wanted to sing.
Steamhammer feature some outstanding guitars courtesy of Martin Pugh and Martin Quittenton; I fully think that the lead singer's voice is a love him/hate him binary. I love Kieran White's voice. I love Steamhammer. I only ever had the second album released here in the states(MKII) but the three main albums, Steamhammer, MKII, and Mountains all are a blend of acoustic prog-folk, british blues, and extended prog-rock jams. …
