This past spring break I took a ride on the Amtrak from Philly to Minneapolis. (about 36 hours) I pretty much listened to Scandal the entire time, even when I was sleeping. Ever since then, whenever I listen to them I feel really nostalgic. It evokes that feeling of traveling and being so far from home and seeing new things in a different place. (It actually helps me sleep now!) I know it's just j-pop but somehow it became so much more than that to me. And oh man, listening to Welcome Home at the Philly train station waiting for my train back home, that was great too, and I don't even understand the lyrics. Looking forward to the new material, hope they come to the east coast next time around!
also, Kill the Virgin ❤️
Well, I've heard all of their studio albums at this point and it might be too early to say after only a few listens, but I find Hello World their worst album along with their debut. It's not bad by any means but it lacks something. Scandal Action includes a couple of their catchiest tracks (Pride, Scandal nanka buttobase) so I can't include it among the worst despite it's also quite inconsistent, IMO. So as a conclusion, I think Scandal's most solid records are Temptation Box, Queens Are Trumps and Standard. And somebody mentioned their song writing abilities: they are young girls and they have plenty of time to hone their skills in the future but honestly, all of my fave tracks were penned by outsider songwriters. :P
Yeah, Idol bands is just to be pretty, don't need to sing well, and I think songs like Taiyou to Kimi ga egaku Story, Shunkan Sentimental and more are a lot of production for just an idol band. They loooked like idol in the beginning just because of the uniform. I think is like a mix.
>> Scandal are nothing but an idol band. <<
No, they're also good songwriters and lyricists, they kick it live and work well in the recording studio. A good idol band just need to look like they're playing, be pretty and dance well. Just because Scandal can do all these things as well doesn't make them "nothing but an idol band". They're a band.
