A love song from a deeply, deeply flawed human being, and all the more affecting for that fact. The narrator is a relatively inarticulate, blubbering jerk who can't express his feelings without alcohol and can't rise above silly romantic cliches even with its help. He's staggeringly presumptuous, assuming that his love for her is enough to justify everything. And even the lengthy litany of his own failings doesn't seem all that sincere: it sounds more like self-pity than contrition. Still ... still, it's beautiful and (I think) heartfelt. "I'm dumb and I'm screwed up and I don't treat you right, but I love you"--what can anyone say about their feelings that's more honest than that?
