Last updated on April 19 2015

Inspired by Mark_H's fine lists, I've decided to publish my ratings of albums. This is my list of prog albums released in 2014 and you can find links to my other lists on my profile page.

I rate every song on an album based on the following criteria.

    10 - Masterpiece
    9 - Excellent
    8 - Very good
    7 - Nice
    6 - Average
    5 - Could be better
    4 - Don't like it
    3 - Bad
    2 - Horrible
    1 - Can't listen to it

When rating an album, I calculate its weighted average considering each song's duration. I also consider previous works released by the artist that I know of, so I can adjust ratings from time to time.

Albums rated around 7 or above are recommended.
Albums rated around 6 are average and you could give it a try to see if you like it.

So, here is my list, which will be updated as I rate new albums or adjust some ratings. Feel free to leave your comments ;-)

    01. (new) Fabio Zuffanti - La Quarta Vittima - 7.02
    02. (new) Resistor - To the Stars - 6.67

It's that time of the year again, huh. Time to look back at the year that has just passed and see all it had to offer. It's also time of--
    Wait, no, it's February.
    Well, fuck.

...but I guess that's okay. Since last.fm has stopped displaying journal entries at artists' pages (well, they're there but well hidden - and come on, I don't know anybody who would actually look for them) and since I stopped being a somewhat active member of the community, my journals had a very limited range. And I know exactly one person who had demanded it (well, maybe up to three... but if you stumbled here by chance, that's cool), so is there an actual point of this?

    Probably not.

    Let's do it anyway.

My rating scale is a bit fucked up as always. Therefore I decided to change the rules a bit. 7 (well, 8) categories, all clearly described. Simple as that. Oh, don't think of 'The Good' like 'well, it's alright, I guess'. It's more like 'holy shit, that's some good stuff'. …

    Fri 18 Apr – Arpegia's Prog Day

Version française - English version, see below

    Fr., 18. Apr. – Arpegia's Prog Day

    OK, so here goes...

    Playlist - 04/03/13
Rush - Different stages 3 - Hammersmith Odeon London 1978
Lynyrd Skynyrd - One More From The Road
Thunder - 20 Years and Out, The Farewell, Hammersmith Apollo 2009
Faith No More - Live at the Brixton Academy 1990
Counting Crows - August & Everything After - Live At Town Hall

Additional - Anyone who knows me would guess I'd start with Rush and I love that recording from '78. I had to play Skynyrd in honour of my Dad who could be here because he doesn't own a PC. Thunder I haven't heard in years so that was a trip down memory lane for me. I agree with FIL1994 about FNM Live Brixton Academy. Patton was fooling around for most of it - don't think I'll be going back to that one. Also the vocal performance on Counting Crows was a bit off in parts which is a shame as the album sounds great.

    Playlist - 11/03/13
    Drive-By Truckers Live - Visulite Theater 29-07-04
Little Feat - Live - Ultrasound Studios 19-09-74
Patterson Hood - Live - Asheville Pizza & Brewing Co. 07-01-06
  • 2012 - a year in music

    Gen 19 2013, 17:51 di MATI9630

    Better late than never.

…or so they say? Well, it is kinda late, but then again, I was too greedy – wanted to rat—I mean, listen to so much music, hence the delay.

Note that my rating scale may (and probably will) differ from yours. Short summary:
    9 – amazing
8 – very good, recommended for everyone
7 – not bad, if you like the genre/band very much, you might give it a try…
6 – well, you CAN listen to it, but there’s no point. Boring/annoying for some reason. Not recommended (maybe if you’re a fanboy of the band – but in that case you’d already own the album)
Anything below 6 – no. Just no.

    2/10
This or the Apocalypse – Dead Years // I’d rather have the Apocalypse…

    5/10
All That Remains – A War You Can Not Win

    5,5/10
As I Lay Dying – Awakened
    Ektomorf – Black Flag
Every Time I Die – Ex Lives

    6/10
    Arthemis – We Fight
At Vance – Facing Your Enemy
Cradle of Filth – The Manticore and Other Horrors
Delain – We Are the Others
    DragonForce – The Power Within
    Eluveitie – Helvetios
