  • The best Catholic besides Saint Peter himself.
  • Interesting preludes; I'll seriously have to check more of his stuff out now.
  • Well... I didn't like him much. I cannot say I like him even now. But his music somehow started to grow on me.
  • I0000days how come you dont talk to me
  • Downloading Vingt Regards sur l'enfant-Jesus alone raised my IQ by 12% ))) so it was between this shout and what I would consider the most beautiful shout in history of - I am happy with the choice I made(((
  • had to learn how to really listen, but the biggest problem was a lack of patience, i think.
  • @str8slammin: What exactly you think was the problem with you?
  • a couple of years ago i couldnt stand this shit, but now i see the problem was with me.. and not with the music. messiaen was a sublime composer and his music is beautiful. i especially enjoy the quartet for the end of time.
  • good
  • He could even infect the listener with his sound-colour synaesthesia.
  • ">come to brazil the dude died 22 years ago..." you're new around here aren't you
  • гений, его наследие - одно из основных в музыке ХХ века вообще.
  • Anyone else see the main pic and think he's shouting "CAN YOU DIG IT?!?" to all the music gangs

  • "I'm a believer, so I sing words of God to those who have no faith. I give bird songs to those who dwell in cities and have never heard them, make rhythms for those who know only military marches or jazz, and paint colors for those who see none."
  • Turangalîla-Symphonie.
  • "nichtsein000 So emotionally neutral... " What? Have you even listened to his organ works?
  • Vingt Regards? I got the Aimard version -that I like
  • Ozawa's classic '68 Turangalîla still rules them all.
  • Which version of Vingt regards should I get?
  • Vingt Regards is excellent. Although Eclairs sur l'au delá can be very arresting even in a first listening
  • La nativité du Seigneur is so fascinating. I also remember one piece of him being played "in" the piano, picking the strings. If anyone knows what its name is, please let me know.
  • Where to start?
  • lovely
  • So emotionally neutral...
  • this is amazing.
  • Fantastic organ music!!!
  • And the organ version of L'Ascension sucks so hard
  • L'Ascension, Quatuor pour la Fin du Temps, Les Offrandes Oubliees and Visions de l'Amen kick so much ass.
  • Olivier Messiaen: Complete Chronological Catalogue in one Spotify playlist Happy 103rd birthday.

Vingt regards is technically Christmas music, isn't it?
  • Consistently at the top of the "Best Dressed Composers" list.
  • something somebody else said [6]
  • Vingt regards = soundtrack for looking down the end of the world....
  • Olivier knows passion.
  • a great revelation for me ; wow this is some GREAT contemporary classical shit !
  • Vingt regards provides all the high I need, no other substances are required.
  • Currently wearing out his solo piano music.

Vingt regards is my favorite as well. And to be perfectly honest, and I doubt Messiaen or most of his fans would approve, I've probably listened to it more while completely baked than while sober.
  • I love the turangalila symphony. :)
  • vingt regards is now my favorite messiaen
  • fucking really brilliant [2]
  • Yep
  • his works for ondes martenot are superb! (it's kinda weird to say that when i love all the music he created..)
  • One of the most stunning sounds!
