  • "the home-recording with just voice, guitar is magnificent. i feel the strings and cymbals really take away from the studio version. the guitar part is incredible in itself. " I kinda agree. I really love Robert Kirby's string arrangment but it's like... the acoustic demo is beautiful and you can't really make it more beautfiul than that. Even by adding beautiful things.

  • This is the most gorgeous song in the whole world. Disagree and you'll get one in the face...
  • Mary Jane....
  • @ adamhimself's comment, john cale didn't do the string arrangements, robert kirby did. cale is only featured on fly and northern sky.
  • How fucking beautiful this is
  • He put equal importance on the listener's interpretation as he did his own, rarely being specific as to the song's meaning... The mystery is part of the appeal, it helps the listener bring their own life to the song.
  • john cale's string arrangements are gorgeous in this track. very expressive (unlike his usual drone-y approach with velvet underground.)
  • I think it's wonderful that Nick now gets the recognition across the generations that so few of us realised at the time. I fell in love with his music aged about 13/14 when I heard Time Has told Me on the Nice Enough To Eat album (Island Sampler) and despite going through phases of listening to many forms of music Nick has always been there. This is one of his most beautiful songs.
  • do you hope to find new ways of quenching your thirst? do you hope to find new ways of doing better than your worst?
  • i AM on a drug. it's called Charlie Sheen. WINNING, DUH
  • Do you like what you're doing? Would you do it some more? Or would you stop once and wonder what you're doing it for?
  • A truly great song. The strings are more tastefully done on this track and don't really bother me at all.
  • my favourite song
  • Incredible. First song to give me a lump in my throat in quite some time.
  • just beautiful
  • This song is a miracle [2] I couldn't agree more.
  • it's really a perfect song.
  • Just to hear him play the guitar makes me smile. And then the setting-in of his smooth singing ... Drake's music is really something very special. This is one of these songs were every word is right where it belongs. :)
  • The Youtube is a bad versoin of this song, get the origional version off the album, FMD!! brilliant
  • Who is Jane? If someone composed a song like this for me, I'd be so honored.
  • Do you curse where you come from, Do you swear in the night Will it mean much to you If I treat you right. Do you like what you're doing, Would you do it some more Or will you stop once and wonder What you're doing it for.
  • drake is my hero, absolutely.
  • This song is a miracle.
  • much more summerish than the shades of autumn of five leaves left album...this song is upbeat and on the strength of this album - bryter later - it seemed that life for drake was full of expectation.....but in the event sadly not....
  • I love the way he weaves his songs together. Its so unusual, with the strange tempos and off beats and sudden guitar and smooth melodies and voice sitting all impossibly perfectly together. Beautiful man.
  • stunning
  • this is the best. such a talent.
  • the entire concept of this song is so different from any other songs i've ever heard
  • This is the track that I discovered Nick Drake through. Reminds me of sitting on top of a mountain in Wales on a summer day.
  • Ah, so beautiful. (:
  • Nick Drake, the perfect music for all seasons. It sounds sad but it makes me feel so good.
  • What a great song. What amazing lyrics.
  • wonderful
  • this is one of those songs/artists that you "feel" or you don't. I pity anyone who doesn't get it. Simply life changing!
  • classic!
  • A Beast of a song. So hard to play. Really complex patterns. The fact that he keeps a the rhythm ROCK SOLID, staggers me. He was a great guitarist.
  • i love him soo much!!!!!!
  • arguably my fave song OF ALL TIME.
  • AAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH stupefied
  • Just how perfect is ' Bryter Layter' and all the songs that sail in her ? If you are the twat who never returned by original vinyl copy after I graciously lent it to you in 1978 then a pox on all your houses. You know who you are !
