I mildly enjoys Synthetica, but not even close to their previous music / albums. Pagans is harder to even enjoy, sadly... which is too bad, because they have proven int he past to be a band that puts out great music.
What am I hearing? this is their best material since Live it Out, not in the same league of course but Synthetica was atrocious except for Youth Without Youth and Fantasies was alright. Kick off Blind Valentine and hate blatant filler like The Face, Pt. 2.
To al the detractors: Fantasies doesn‘t sound so bad now, huh?
Personally, I am in love with this new album. I am in love with the synths Jimmy composed and the powerful lyrics Emily wrote. The whole albums seems to have the same vibe, even though none of the songs sound the same. I do love their previous stuff more, but for me there is no disappointment here. There is a natural evolution and there is hard work in this album!
Another confirmation that the next album after Pagans in Vegas will be different: By contrast, the second LP favors simpler, acoustic arrangements. “We didn’t use any instruments made after 1970,” Shaw says. Haines describes the bulk of her work for the 2016 full-length as “pure and natural,” reverting back to the naked and melancholic styles of her 2006 solo album, Knives Don’t Have Your Back. Recording for the forthcoming album was finished recently and done piecemeal on the road — Steve Albini’s Chicago space and Nashville’s Blackbird Studios were among the locations — while Metric toured as openers for Imagine Dragons. Ok, so what the fuck? Why so many people rant over Synthetica? The album has some AMAZING WORK. Speed the Collapse is fast-paced, well written and calls our attention to a very important problem. Lost Kitten plays with its own lyrics and ends up as a catchy, funny and enjoyable tune. Breathing Underwater is a smooth, peaceful song that leads the listener to reflection. People should accept change and the right the artists have to experiment other ways of expressing their creativity. Hopefully Metric will keep doing what they love and want and will forever ignore those haters who are not willing to open their minds to such beautiful new concepts.
